WORD OF THE WEEK: HONESTY
I read a story about a once infamous robber known as The Snob Robber. The reason he was called the Snob Robber is because he would only steal from the very rich.
He became so famous in the 1920’s that people who were visited by the Snob Robber began to feel a sense of prestige because he would only steal from the wealthiest and the most famous.
After many years of being unable to catch the Snob Robber, the police became very discouraged. Then suddenly, he just vanished. No one ever heard of the Snob Robber again…until about 10 years later.
The police were given a tip by a former girlfriend. Sure enough, after following the tip, the police apprehended the Snob Robber.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his thefts. When the infamous Snob Robber was released from prison, it made national headlines. Upon his release, a reporter asked the infamous robber whom he had stolen the most from. The Snob Robber replied, “That’s an easy one! The person I stole the most from was myself.
I could have been anything in life--a writer, a successful businessman, maybe even a teacher, but I’ve spent the last 40 years of my life in prison, and now I am an old man. The person I have stolen the most from has been me.”
Teaching points:
This is the importance of integrity and honesty. When you cheat, cut corners, or do dishonest things, the person you steal the most from is you.
When you don’t give your best effort – the person you rob the most from is you. It’s your potential that suffers.
When we’re not honest with people – the person we rob the most from is ourselves we end up losing friends and adults won’t trust us.
The purpose of today’s lesson is to encourage you to always be honest and have integrity, and to help you realize that when you’re not honest, the person who gets hurt the most is yourself.
