WORD OF THE WEEK: INTEGRITY

In 1887, a distinguished looking man in his late 50’s walked into a local grocery store to buy some vegetables. After the clerk bagged the vegetables, the older man handed her a $20 bill (which was a lot of money back then).

As the clerk reached into the cash register to make change, she noticed something peculiar. There was ink on her hands. After the man left, she looked at the $20 bill and noticed the ink was smudging.

She immediately called the police. The police too were confused because the $20 bill looked like the real thing. After the police went to Mr. Nyger’s home, they discovered he was in the process of making counterfeit $20 bills in his attic.

Each counterfeit bill was hand painted. Mr. Nyger was a master painter. He was so good that he was able to perfectly duplicate a $20 bill. The only reason he got caught was because the hands of the grocery store clerk were wet from the vegetables.

What’s even more sad is that after Mr. Nyger was arrested, the other $20 bill portraits that he had made sold for between $5,000 to $16,000 each. In 1887, THAT WAS A LOT OF MONEY!!

What’s the point dishonesty ALWAYS leads to loss! Mr. Nyger lost his freedom. There may be a time when you are tempted to be dishonest, and the temptation may be that you will gain something.

Like cheating on a test or lying about something. But don’t believe it - dishonesty always leads to loss. In one way or another, you’re ALWAYS better off doing what’s right.
