You’ve heard all the advice—set a regular bedtime, release your stress through exercise, reserve your bedroom as a place to sleep—but you’re awake at one in the morning so you need help now. This moment. What can a frustrated insomniac do? Try getting up and doing something for a bit. It’s tempting to stay in bed and just keeping trying to force yourself to sleep, but you’ll probably just work yourself up more from all the trying. You may need to “try again”, almost like a plane that tried to come in for a landing, realized the approach was too steep, and needs to re-circle the airport and try again. Your body has a window of time in which it is used to falling asleep; if you are off and miss that window, you may have to get up, do your bedtime routine again, and then try to fall asleep. Heat up some milk. Drinking warm milk works for a lot of people. If you’re not crazy about warm milk, try a natural sleep tea like Valerian or Chamomile, both of which are quite effective. Engage in a quiet, restful activity. Keep the lighting soft and try an activity that makes you feel drowsy. Do not use your computer, watch television, or play video games as the stimulation will prevent you from going back to sleep. You’ll do better with something like reading, crocheting, or just thinking positive thoughts. @@AMAZONWIDGET;book;1000@@. Construct a plan. If your mind is racing because you’re concerned about something, try writing out solutions or planning around the issue. Don’t make calls, send emails, or take any action; write out a plan regarding what you can do and what you must leave to others. When you’re done, try going back to bed and see if you can fall asleep this time. Nighty night! @@AMAZONWIDGET;valerian tea;16310101@@. @@AMAZONWIDGET;sleepytime tea;16310101@@.Tagged with: Back To Sleep • Bedtime Routine • Chamomile • Crocheting • Exercise • Health / Fitness • Insomnia • Insomniac • Lighting • Positive Thoughts • Sleep • Sleepytime Tea • Stress • Television • Valerian • Video Games • Warm Milk • Window Of Time
